This future vision was released in 2017, and took the world by storm.
Although technically viable (as demonstrated), unfortunately the marketing of this concept fell apart.
And no doubt crushed by the Establishment (BigFood and Govt) who did not want you to know the poor quality of mass-produced in depleted soils, picked too early to travel the many food miles to the market, etc. etc.
Now, we have a plan to make scanners very useful to both consumers and growers.
We have used the SCiO scanner for past 4 years to compare produce qualities, food values for money, across supermarkets and fresh produce outlets in Ballarat. Cheapest, prettiest is not always best!
We found which outlets offered the best quality (NDI = BRIX) and, more importantly, which offered the best Food (nutritious, delicious) Value for Money Index (FVMI), and which offered the worst qualities or least FVMI.
We also found that shoppers are time poor, do not have the time to find, select the best, just rush into their favourite store and grab what they need.
But, we found that shoppers are very interested in selecting the best of the bunch, the most delicious, nutritious, etc., before they buy and test (eat) it.
So, we are building a low cost scanner which does precisely that.
